6/30/2023 0 Comments Avatar the rise of kyoshi series![]() ![]() ![]() I did, of course, hand over her birthday present in October, as that was when I saw her (her birthday is in May…) but that meant I had plenty of time to read it before I presented it to her, and I had already ordered the sequel, so I would have it finished before I left Ireland a few days later. ![]() That is, until Sinéad, my sister, asked for the Rise of Kyoshi for her birthday. That, plus lockdown, plus various other nonsense meant that although I always intended to get them, I never really got around to it. That question was complicated by the fact that the Kyoshi novels haven’t actually been picked up by a British publisher, so they’re not available in British bookstores. So I was always going to read the novelisation of the avatar two before Aang – Avatar Kyoshi, an earthbender who lived for 230 years, created the Dai Li, ended the reign of terror of Chin the Conqueror, and nearly ended up getting Aang boiled in oil. I also thoroughly enjoyed the followup animated series The Legend of Korra, about the next incarnation of the avatar spirit, and have read the graphic novel additions to the canon of the avatarverse multiple times. I think the entire universe is a deeply inspired piece of worldbuilding, the animated series is beautifully rendered and the plots are compellingly built. I have mentioned before on this blog – although it was a few years ago – that I love the tv series Avatar The Last Airbender. ![]()
